Comments from Fundación CTIC.

Subject: SIOC specification (CTIC)

Dear Uldis,

I am Luis Polo from CTIC Foundation (Spain). We have received the invitation
to participate in the SIOC Ontology specification to submit it to the W3C.
We have analyzed the initiative and we consider it is a useful idea to
interlink Web Communities. We would like to support the W3C member
submission. We have two comments:

1) Fisrt of all, Sergio Fernandez, a researcher of our department, has
developped an application, as a research project around the semantic web

SIOC extensions proposal

Hi All,

The following are some ideas we want to propose for extensions to SIOC
ontology.

SIOC extensions

Class sioc:Forum

Suggested additions:

resource containing data from the forum. Examples are RSS feeds, ATOM,
OPML etc. The URI can be used for differentiating the format and

Blog data translation project

Dear all -

The Intl Conf on Weblogs and Social Media are providing a large blog
dataset to participants.

This could be a nice set of data to convert to SIOC, along with related
links, topics, user info.

Anyone interested in participating in such a project?

All the best,

John.

Time extended for feedback to SIOC specification

In order for members who just joined to provide quality feedback we
have exteneded the period for feedback to the SIOC W3C member
submission draft until September 24.

This will also allow more time for decisions about supporting the
submission and will accomodate organisations that are joining W3C
shortly.

Updated schedule:
- inform DERI by sending email to Uldis Bojars (uldis.bojars@deri.org)
about intent to participate
- send feedback to the specification (by September 24)
- DERI prepares final version of the document package (by September
28)
- partners confirm that the final version is acceptable

SIOC Specification update - v1.08

We have updated the SIOC Specification:
- removed deprecated properties
* changed links to SIOC project pages to http://sioc-project.org

Properties deprecated are created_at, modified_at, description,
subject, title.

Deprecation of these properties was decided on the mailing list and
#sioc earlier and is now implemented. Motivation - existing properties
(e.g., from Dublin Core) that can be used to describe this information,
removing redundancy.

For each of these properties owl:versionInfo in the ontology namespace
[1] describes details, e.g., what properties to use instead. External

API and DotClear exporter updates

Hi all,

A lot of changes have been made to the PHP API, which now refers to the latest version of SIOC specs.
It also uses both foaf:maker and sioc:has_creator to link Posts to Users / Person [1], using only foaf:maker for unregistered users (eg comments [2]). Moreover, each user is now exported with a small FOAF profile [3], next step should be to link also to 'real' profiles.

API information is available at http://esw.w3.org/topic/SIOC/PHPExportAPI
A tutorial will come soon to explain in detail how to create exporters. Use it if you plan to develop PHP exporters, as it will ensure all exporters use a standardized and up-to-date version of SIOC data.

Ping Service for SIOC Data

Frédérick Giasson recently launched a Semantic Web ping service called PingtheSemanticWeb.com.

This service can receive notifications of Semantic Web documents (such as SIOC) that have been updated, and works with the Semantic Radar plugin for Firefox.

You can read more about the API, or you can export a list of recently pinged documents.

SIOC Integration with OpenLink Data Spaces

Kingsley Idehen and the people at OpenLink Software have recently integrated SIOC with OpenLink Data Spaces (ODS).

OpenLink Data Spaces allows SPARQL queries to be performed on ODS data via SIOC ontology mappings.

SIOC & encoding spatial features.

Hello there,
Uldis introduced me to SIOC and we had some discussions about it. Due
to my geoinformatics background I was thinking a bit about the
possibilities to add geospatial information to
sioc concepts.

The currently most used approach is GeoRSS. OGC (which makes the
standards in our domain)
has published a white paper [1] about it. It is built on top the W3C
geo vocubalary, but extended it to support more complex geometries than
a simple point. It's big advantage is the upwards compatibility to GML,
which allows for encoding also complex spatial features (take a
collection of bike routes as example). An introduction to GeoRSS and

ANN: WordPress SIOC plugin - v1.19

Version 1.19 of the WordPress SIOC plugin is available now. Please
upgrade.

WordPress SIOC plugin [1] allows to make full blog contents available
on the Semantic Web (in a machine readable form) using SIOC, FOAF and
Dublin Core.

Changed:
+ improved export of FOAF and SIOC information about authors of posts
and comments
+ added FOAF information to the SIOC user profile pages
+ added post titles (dc:title) to the list of posts
